HELEN:

“My life and my fate are things of horror.
For this … my beauty is to blame.
If only I were as hideous as a statue
from which the paint was wiped away,
The people would not have been subjected to such suffering.”

(from Helen, a tragedy by the classical Greek playwright Euripides, who lived from 485 to 406 BC)

Note: This Home Page reports on research activities of the Brinkmann & Brinkmann research team. The Stiftung Archäologie ceased its operational work in 2016. Most of the polychrome reconstructions, which had been accomplished with the substantial assistance of Stiftung Archäologie, are in the possession of Staedelmuseum/Liebieghaus Skulpturensammlung Frankfurt am Main as by August 2016. The Liebieghaus Polychromy Research Project is organizing further investigation as well as future reconstruction work.
